Boppard is one of the most charming cities in the Middle Rhine Valley and lies on the banks of the river's largest bend. The town’s long, rich history is evident at every turn: a Roman church, a Gothic church, beautiful timber-framed houses, old monasteries, courts of nobility, remains of the Medieval city wall, and the Kurtrierisch Castle (home to the municipal museum with a remarkable collection of Thonet furniture). Especially noteworthy are the remains of a 4th-Century Roman fort, the best-preserved Roman fortifications in Germany. Further attractions include boat trips, a lift to a viewpoint overlooking the town and the Rhine Valley, the Hunsrückbahn mountain railway (one of the steepest stretches of railway in Germany), and a 200-kilometre network of hiking trails. By taking a walk along the wine information trail you can get to know the various grapes of the "Bopparder Hamm" vineyards.
